Wilma J. Wilson passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Rock Creek of Ottawa in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on July 16, 1942, in Sargent, Nebraska, to Ray and Betsy (Bouma) Nehls.
Wilma shared a beautiful love story with her husband, Wallace Wilson. Their journey together began in Nebraska when Wallace first noticed Wilma riding her bicycle. That chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong romance, and together they built a remarkable marriage spanning sixty-seven years. Their unwavering love and commitment were an inspiration to all who knew them.
Wilma was a devoted mother to her daughter, Julia Thomas (Mark), and her son, Steve Wilson (Brenda). She found her greatest joy in her family and was a cherished grandmother to four grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to three great-grandchildren. She adored each of them beyond measure and often said she was "obsessed" with their happiness and accomplishments. Nothing brought her greater pride than watching her family grow and thrive.
A woman of many talents, Wilma expressed her creativity through quilting and painting. Whether creating beautiful quilts, painting landscapes, or even painting houses, she approached every project with determination and skill. Her tenacious spirit was evident when, at 70, she proudly painted her own house. The quilts she lovingly stitched and the artwork she created will remain treasured reminders of her remarkable gifts.
Wilma also had a lifelong love for animals and enjoyed the companionship of many beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. She was known for her practical and resourceful nature, never passing up a sturdy box because she knew it might someday serve a useful purpose, a charming habit that brought smiles to those who knew her best.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Betsy Nehls, whose love and guidance shaped the woman she became.
Wilma will be remembered for her kind heart, creative spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the beautiful creations she left behind, and the countless memories her family and friends will cherish forever. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to surround those who knew her.
