William "DeWayne" Dempsay

William “DeWayne” Dempsay, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Olathe, Kansas. Born on November 23, 1958, in Paola, Kansas, William’s life was a testament to hard work, creativity, and heartfelt connection with those around him.

DeWayne grew up in Rantoul, Kansas, and Gladstone, Missouri, forming lifelong roots in the heartland. He attended Central Heights and Kemper Military School, embarking on a journey that would see him contribute to his country, his community, and his family in many meaningful ways.

A proud veteran, William served his country in the United States Air Force as a lineman. His dedication and discipline during his military service were mirrored throughout his life. Professionally, he worked for various companies around the heartland, where his work ethic and integrity earned the respect and trust of colleagues and customers alike.

Possessing an unmistakable artistic talent, DeWayne found great joy in painting, especially air brushing. He was an inventive spirit, able to transform ordinary items into extraordinary art projects. Many admired his vibrant Chiefs and Royals memorabilia, as well as his Christian-themed artwork. Creativity flowed through every aspect of his life, and those who knew him were often gifted pieces that reflected his talent, passion, and attention to detail.

DeWayne’s personality was as magnetic as his art was colorful. He was outgoing and kind-hearted, with a natural gift for conversation. A good friend to many, he greeted everyone with a warm smile and a keen sense of humor, brightening any room he entered. His deep love for people fostered connections that were genuine and lasting.

Throughout his life, William called several Kansas communities home, including Gardner, Olathe, Osawatomie, Ottawa, and most recently, his birthplace of Paola. In each place, he left behind cherished memories and friendships.

DeWayne's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who survive him: his daughters, Melissa Garms and Lindsey Hay; his brother, Roger Dempsay; and his step-brothers, Jerry Hyatt and Floyd Hyatt, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is now reunited in peace with his mother, Mary Dempsay-Leslie, his father, Clifford Dempsay, and his step-mother, Gerry Dempsay, and brother, Daryl “Dee” Dempsay, whose memories he held close throughout his life.

DeWayne’s legacy will live on in the hearts and smiles of his family and friends, the beauty of his artwork, and the kindness he showed to all who were fortunate enough to know him. His Memory Will Forever Be Loved and Cherished.
