Tony Cummings, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 22, 2025, in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on February 3, 1965, in Garnett, Kansas, he lived a life rich with purpose and dedication.
Tony graduated from Topeka High School with the class of 1983, and soon after enlisted with the United States Air Force on December 16, 1983. He proudly served during Operation Desert Storm and was honorably discharged on May 3, 1993. Throughout his military career, he began as a supply officer, and later held a special assignment in Italy and Germany with NATO, experiences that shaped not only his professional life but also the values he instilled in his family.
Following his military service, Tony built a successful career as the IT Director for Cargotec, where he was known for his expertise and commitment to excellence. His passion for technology extended beyond his career; he took joy in tinkering with computers and eagerly shared this interest with his children, teaching them how to build their own computers.
On May 13, 1995, Tony married his beloved wife, Cheryl Caverty, in Olathe, Kansas. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter and love. Tony was a devoted father to three daughters: Alex, Ashley, and Kristina, and he found immense joy in the role of grandfather to Hephaestion and Juniper. He cherished every moment spent with family, imparting wisdom, humor, and a love for history, particularly regarding JFK.
Tony’s interests reflected his vibrant spirit; he was an avid fan of KU Basketball, and he enjoyed video games, sharing this passion with his family. His curiosity about history led him to engage in meaningful discussions, ensuring that those around him appreciated the past.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Cummings, three daughters, Alex Larkin, Ashley Anderson, and Kristina Cummings, as well as his grandchildren, Hephaestion and Juniper Anderson. Tony is also survived by his siblings Ginny Kems, Sherri Cummings, Curtis Cummings, Brad Tyrell, and Tina Cummings.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Cummings and Carla Carr, and his brother, Troy Tyrell. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Tony Cummings will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his professional contributions, and his many passions that brought joy not only to his life but to the lives of those around him.
Cremation is planned with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
