Stanley D. Lantis was born March 6, 1943 in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the first-born son to Charles and Gladys Lucille Lantis. He passed away at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Stan grew up in rural Franklin County, attending one room grade schools. In 1955, the family moved to Pomona where he graduated with the class of 1961. He attended Emporia State Teachers College graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. In 1971, he received his Masters degree from Emporia State University.
He started his career as a History teacher at Oxford, Kansas in January of 1966. In August of that year, he became the Guidance Counselor as well. He spent eleven years in Oxford before moving back to Pomona. He joined the family business with his brother and father at Landis Builders, building many homes and businesses in the area. In 1987, Stan returned to education as the K-12 Guidance Counselor at Williamsburg. He retired when the schools consolidated in 2007. Stan then worked at Burlingame schools for five years.
In 1965, he married Sylvia Patsy) Mooney in Pomona, Kansas. This marriage was blessed with Michelle (1967), Jeffery (1969), and Nicole (1972). They later divorced.
Stan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harry and Ina Lantis; maternal grandparents Harbor and Eula McDaniel; and son Jeffery Lantis.
He is survived by daughters Michelle Harms (Richard) and Nicole Carey (Bret), all of Pomona; brother Gale Lantis and family of Baldwin City, Kansas; grandchildren Joe Harms (Caci) of Ottawa, Michael Harms, Coleby Carey and Miranda Carter (Dakota) all of Pomona; and great granddaughter Sara Harms of Ottawa, Kansas.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation held on May 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary located at 235 S Hickory St, Ottawa, Kansas. The funeral service will take place on May 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ottawa, 203 East 4th Street, Ottawa, Kansas. Following the service, burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery on K-68 Highway in Pomona, Kansas.
