Robert “Lee” Coyan Jr., 64, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away at home on January 26, 2026.

Lee was born January 19, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Robert Lee Coyan Sr. and Mary Jo Harley and raised by step-mother Dora Jean who was a loving mother to Lee and sister, Teressa.

Lee had a natural talent for working with his hands and a sharp technical mind. In 1985, he attended Trenton Jewelry School where he trained as a jeweler and continued building skills throughout his life, eventually becoming a respected locksmith. He also worked for many years with the Lyon County Road and Bridge Department. In 1997, Lee opened his first locksmith business in Emporia, KS and in 2007 dedicated himself to Keyman Locksmith, where he became known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and willingness to help anyone in need. As a trusted locksmith, he was rarely alone — his faithful dogs, Titus, Roscoe and Kramer, were almost always by his side as he worked. His work was more than a job; it was his way of serving his community.

Lee shared 16 years with his wife, Sherri Wells, who stood by his side and together they created many joyful memories built on love, laughter, and compassion.

He was a proud and devoted father to daughter, Jamy (Jeremy) Thompson; son, Sean (Samantha) Coyan; and daughter, Linsey (Nick) Coyan. He also loved his stepchildren, Alicia (Justin) Lance and Jessica (Anthony) Currier.

Lee’s legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jufe, Jamie, Brelynn, Raleigh, Abigail, Haley, Annabellah, Ashton, Isaac, Arralynn, and great-grandson Syrus.

Outside of work, Lee lived life fully. He loved rebuilding cars and repairing things, especially clocks, and could often be found grilling or showing off the latest tool or gadget he had picked up. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed NASCAR, drag racing, and Rock N Roll. His hands were rarely still, and his heart was always generous.

Lee will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his willingness to help others, and the deep love he had for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
