Richard J. Dillon, age 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on January 30, 2026, at Rock Creek, Ottawa, Kansas.

He was born on May 24, 1937, in Gardner, Kansas, the son of George H. Dillon and Lola S. (Ikenberry) Dillon.

Richard grew up on a family farm north of Pomona and attended Appanoose Schools, graduating in 1955. He attended The College of Emporia for one year before returning home to assist with the family farm alongside his father and brothers. He spent 28 years as a dairy farmer, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication to agriculture.

On August 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Carol R. Browning, and together they raised three children. They later divorced.

Richard was a member of Centropolis Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon.

In addition to farming, Richard was an avid sports collector and lifelong fan. He owned and operated a sports memorabilia store in Ottawa for several years. In his later years, he was employed at the Ottawa Antique Mall, where he enjoyed visiting with customers while operating a booth featuring sports cards, figurines, and sports memorabilia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Dillon and Lola S. Dillon, and his brothers, George H (Junior) Dillon and Robert (Bob) Dillon

Survivors include his three children, Matt Dillon, of Topeka, Mitzi Love and John, of Pomona, and Stan Dillon and Janie, of Ottawa, one sister-in-law, Lois Dillon of Pomona; eight grandchildren, Raymond Love and Laura of Pomona, Shayleen Powell and Kraig of Ottawa, Dallas Dillon and Laci of Olathe, Brandi Osburn and Derek of Lenexa, Nikki Thyfault and Dominic of Auburn, Ciara Dillon of Ottawa, Kati Dillon of Brooklyn, NY, and Cody Dillon of Topeka; and nine great-grandchildren; Brayden, Ashlyn, Berkley, Kolten, Piper, Livia, Ava, Mia, and Brooks.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at Dengel & Sons Mortuary, Ottawa. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Richard will be remembered for his strong faith, hardworking spirit, and deep love for his family and community.
