Listen to Obituary

Phyllis Jean Martin, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of the Louisburg community, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on May 1, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, and grew up with a passion for life that she shared generously with those around her. She was the second of ten children to Clarence Eugene and Billie Dorene (Sconce) Trageser.

Phyllis graduated from Wea High School, Bucyrus, Kansas, with the class of 1963. After completing her education, she embarked on a diverse and fulfilling career. She spent the majority of her professional life as an accounting clerk at King Radio, later transitioning to serve as a bus driver for the Louisburg school district. Most recently, she took on the role of church secretary at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she worked for three years and became a familiar face in the parish. In her later years, she embraced retirement, relishing the time spent with family and indulging in her various hobbies.

Throughout her life, Phyllis was deeply dedicated to her family. She married John Michael Martin on September 28, 1963, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea Catholic Church. Their marriage lasted for an admirable 61 years until John preceded her in death just weeks prior, on September 2, 2025. They are now reunited together again, celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary in heaven.

Phyllis was an avid gardener, finding joy and fulfillment in nurturing her flowers, which earned her several "garden of the month" awards. She was also devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding great delight in their achievements and activities. An enthusiastic camper and traveler, Phyllis enjoyed exploring the outdoors with her family, creating precious memories that will be cherished for generations.

She is survived by her four beloved children: Tammy Martin, Pamela (Chris) Vohs, Carmela (Chris Buckley) Martin, and John (Michele) Martin. Phyllis was a doting grandmother to 11 grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 17 great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her siblings: Dorothy O'Keefe; Carol (Tony) Huddleston; Bob (Debbie) Trageser; David (Sharon) Trageser; Rose Pearce; Donna (Bobby) Waite; Jane (Donnie) Dunn; Ted (Kim) Trageser; and Gene (Heather) Trageser. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence "Gene" and Billie Trageser.

Phyllis's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed.
