Oletta Mae Ross

Oletta Mae Ross, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, in Louisburg, Kansas, just shy of her 88th birthday. She was born on July 24, 1938, in Elizabeth, Arkansas, and spent her formative years under the loving guidance of her grandfather.

Oletta’s journey took her from the quiet countryside of Arkansas to Kansas City, Missouri, a move that would set the stage for the most serendipitous meeting of her life. In Kansas City, she was introduced to Jake Ross on a blind date. Nineteen days later, they embarked on a lifelong partnership, marking the beginning of a marriage defined by devotion and togetherness.

Family played an essential role in Oletta’s life. She is survived by her children: Travis (Sharon) Ross, Teresa (Jene) Vickrey, and Ben (Rhonda) Ross. Oletta’s love extended to her grandchildren—Travis Ross, Jr., Jimmy Ross, Jacob Vickrey, Heather Key, Bryan Ross, Jasmine Lane, and Joshua Vickrey—as well as her great-grandchildren: Travis Ross III, William Ross, Katie Pate, Emma Vickrey, Olivia Vickrey, Analeigh Lane, Anika Vickrey, Avery Lane, Skylar Ross, Bodhi Ross, Maxx Ross, and Lilah Burk. She also leaves behind her beloved brothers, Ernie Schultz and Ronnie Schultz, and her cherished sister, Donna Rearick.

Oletta’s memory lives on alongside those who preceded her in death: her husband Jake Ross, son Timmy Ross, granddaughter Johanna Vickrey, brothers Charles and Danny Schultz, and her mother, Thelma Nobaris.

Throughout her life, Oletta embraced every moment with warmth and enthusiasm. She was known for her deep passion for gardening; tending her plants brought her immense joy and pride. Her love of gardening was matched only by her skill in canning—her homemade salsa was often called her best, a treat eagerly anticipated by family and friends. Oletta also enjoyed painting t-shirts, a creative outlet that allowed her to share a piece of herself with her loved ones.

A vibrant and active member of her community, Oletta gave generously of her time and energy to the Louisburg Senior Center. She was a familiar face in the kitchen and at bingo gatherings, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. Her dedication to the center culminated in her role as site manager, a position she held with distinction over the years.

Above all, Oletta cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her love for them radiated through every gathering, celebration, and quiet moment spent together. She thrived on time spent with family, and her legacy will be carried forward in the lives of those who knew her best.

Oletta also found delight in square dancing—an activity that reflected her zest for life and her appreciation for simple pleasures. Her life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the profound connections that bind a family together.

Oletta’s life touched many, and her legacy of love, generosity, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, KS 66053. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Louisburg Cemetery, following the service.
