Linda (Harclerode) Prothe, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Meadowbrook Hospital in Gardner, Kansas. She was born on December 15, 1949, in Paola, Kansas, where her journey through life first began and where she would ultimately touch so many hearts.
Linda spent her childhood in Paola, attending local schools, and completed her education as a proud graduate of Paola High School with the class of 1967. Her early years in this tight-knit community shaped her enduring values and everlasting friendships, which remained a central part of her life. Linda never lost touch with her high school friends—sharing weekly visits, exchanging heartfelt letters, and sending cards that carried memories, laughter, and continued connection through the years.
Throughout her professional life, Linda was a familiar face at the Miami County Republic newspaper office in Paola, where she dedicated many years of service. Her contributions were valued among colleagues and the local community she served with steadfast commitment.
Linda was known for her keen intellect and remarkable memory. She had an uncanny ability to recall facts and events, always impressing those around her with her wit and cleverness. Her good sense of humor brightened countless lives and brought levity to many a conversation.
Outside her working life, Linda cultivated an array of interests and joys. She delighted in reading, with a particular fondness for crime novels, and could often be found diligently piecing through daily crossword puzzles—an activity as challenging as it was rewarding for her agile mind. In later years, Linda and her husband found happiness as camp hosts at Paola Lake. The pair cherished their time camping, welcoming visitors and helping manage the grounds, finding joy together in the tranquil beauty of the outdoors.
Linda is survived by her loving family: her son, Jeff (Bobbie) Stallbaumer; her grandchildren, Colten (Devan) Stallbaumer and Corey (Emily) Stallbaumer; and her great-grandchildren, Alexis, Aven, Henry, and Lainey Stallbaumer. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sylvia Harclerode, and her brother-in-law, Billy McCracken.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn Prothe, father, Eldon Harclerode; her mother, Arlene Harclerode; her brother, Larry Harclerode; and her sister, Teri McCracken.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Meadowbrook Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion. Their kindness made Linda's last year one of joy and comfort, and for that, the family will always be grateful.
Linda's warmth, wit, and unwavering devotion to family and friends have left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know her. She will be remembered with deep love and abiding respect by all whose lives she touched.
