Leocadio Matias, Jr., a distinguished Finance Officer and proud Army veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa, Kansas, on June 4, 2025, with his wife by his side.
Leocadio dedicated several years of his professional life to the Texas Department of Transportation, where he worked diligently before retiring in 2013. His commitment to service extended beyond his career; he proudly served in the United States Army from May 1972 to October 1992, ultimately attaining the rank of Major. During his military career, he notably served in the Vietnam War, an experience that would shape his character and values. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary contributions.
Leocadio earned a Master’s Degree in Accounting, a testament to his commitment to excellence and lifelong learning.
He and Connie moved to Ottawa, Kansas (Franklin County), from Georgetown, Texas, in 2015. He quickly grew to enjoy the community and was cherished by those around him.
Leocadio is also remembered as a devoted stepfather to his three stepchildren: Loree Love (Brian) of Osawatomie, Kansas; Coree Harris (Ernie) of Paola, Kansas; and Robert Emery of Ottawa, Kansas.
The legacy Leocadio leaves behind is marked by his unwavering commitment to family, service, and integrity. A graveside service will be held on June 10, 2025, at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas, where he will be honored for his life and service.
Though he is no longer with us, the strength of his love, service, and integrity will echo through generations.
