Lawrence T. Fisher, a devoted family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa, Kansas on March 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 18, 1952, in Ottawa, Kansas, Lawrence was the cherished son of the late John L. and Dorothy C. (Bradley) Fisher.
His life was marked by service and commitment. Lawrence honorably served in the United States Army from June 22, 1972, until June 20, 1975, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while serving in the Intelligence Department. Following his military service, he devoted thirty-five years of his career to the City of Ottawa as a power plant operator, retiring in 2010 with pride and recognition for his steadfast dedication.
Lawrence's personal life was equally rich and fulfilling. In 1972, he married Rita Jean Clark, who preceded him in death in 1999. He later married Nina Smith in August 2001 in Ottawa, Kansas, and she survives him along with their family. Lawrence is lovingly remembered by his four children, Sharon Shay (Cody), Renee Edwards (Tim), Jeff Raby (Ashley), and Stacy Raby; nine grandchildren Ryan, Mitch, Kaitlin, Sam, Pat, Emily, Clara, Diana, and Sarah Jo; twelve great grandchildren; and brother Jim Fisher (Retha).
Along with his first wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank Fisher and Ron Fisher.
A man of varied interests and passions, Lawrence was an avid lover of nature and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping in a camper, always eager to explore a variety of activities. His favorite pastime was simply taking in the breathtaking views from the lake, a quiet and cherished moment for reflection. Lawrence also had a spirit of adventure, having briefly flown an airplane (very brief!), a testament to his willingness to try new experiences. In his youth, he was an excellent football and basketball player, showcasing his athletic talents.
Among his treasured memories were cruises to Cancun, Cozumel, and the Mayan Ruins, as well as family trips to the Ozarks with his children—times filled with joy and the strengthening of bonds.
A visitation will be held on April 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 S Hickory St, Ottawa, Kansas.
