Larry was born on May 4, 1943, in Morgan County, Missouri. He lived on a farm with his parents until he was a teenager. Larry moved to Overland Park, KS, in 1953. He attended Shawnee Mission High School. Soon after he met his wife, Eva, through friends. They were married a short 8 months later on February 22, 1964, at the Assembly of God Church in Overland Park, KS. Larry was a firefighter for 32 years at Johnson County Consolidated Fire District #2. Larry and Eva had 3 children. They moved to rural Paola in 1982 and then would move to town in Paola in 1988.
Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, camping, and spoiling his wife, Eva.
Larry is survived by his children, Gail (Dave Rosenberg) Waisner-Lewis, Scott (Dawn) Waisner, and Denna Waisner, all of Paola. Three grandchildren, Thomas Waisner, Ashley (Christopher) Trejo, and Timothy (Carmina) Waisner. Three great-grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Ezekiel, and Maria Trejo. He is also survived by his brother, Garry Waisner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eva Waisner, siblings, Bill (Carol) Waisner, Bob (Betty) Waisner, and Norma (Doddle) Hayes, and son-in-law, Ed Lewis.
Throughout his years, Larry exemplified the values of hard work, perseverance, and commitment to protecting and saving his community. His legacy is firmly rooted in the respect and admiration he garnered from family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Services to honor Larry J. Waisner’s life will be held on May 23, 2026, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Paola, Kansas. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., providing an opportunity for those who knew him to gather and share memories. Following this, the funeral service will commence at 11:00 a.m., culminating at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place following the services at the funeral home at Osawatomie Cemetery.
Larry’s passing is a solemn reminder of the enduring impact one individual can have on a community. His presence will be deeply missed. The family and friends of Mr. Waisner extend their gratitude to all who have shown support during this time.
Larry J. Waisner’s life, though now complete, remains a testament to the enduring qualities of kindness, dignity, and resolve. His memory will live on in the hearts of those privileged to know him.
