Kenneth Myles Hufferd, known to his family and friends as “Kenney”, was born on March 30, 1928, in Olpe, Kansas to Esther and Harry “Bud” Hufferd. During high school he worked at the Olpe Filling Station and at the Olpe Chicken House peeling potatoes. When his dad got hurt, Kenney helped out on the family farm. During this time Kenney received a Selective Service notice, but because he was the only son of a farmer, he did not get drafted. He felt bad about this, so he enlisted in the National Guard.
In 1945, he met the love of his life, Judy, when he offered to change the tire on her 1928 Model A. They were wed on September 4, 1949, in Emporia, Kansas. They moved to Liberal for a short time while Kenney was working for Panhandle. Later in 1949 they transferred back to Haven where they had their first child, Darrell, in 1950. In 1953 they had their second son, Doug, and in 1959, they had their third son, David.
In 1970, they transferred to Louisburg where he worked for Panhandle as the plant supervisor until he retired in 1985, and where they shared 73 years together. Once he retired, they became “Winter Texans”. Kenney loved to golf, fish, hunt, camp, boat, make homemade ice cream, and spend time with his family and friends. He loved woodworking and especially loved the Royals and the Chiefs.
Kenney was preceded in death by his wife, Judy; his parents; his sisters Lois and Florence; his son Doug and daughter-in-law Gail; and grandson Clint Ziegler. He leaves behind his son Darrell Hufferd and Denise Ziegler (Wichita, KS), son David Hufferd and Michele (Louisburg, KS), Grandkids Craig Hufferd and Kalli (Louisburg, KS), Jennifer Morris and Shane (Raymore, MO), Jimmy Hufferd and Molly (Kansas City, MO), Misty Trucks (Parsons, KS), Myles Hufferd and Kaylee (Springfield, MO), Megan Hufferd (Lee’s Summit, MO), and Brooke Ziegler and Augie (Wichita, KS); Great-Grandkids Parker Hufferd, Meredith Schmidt, Jackson Hufferd, Blakely Hufferd, Eloise Hufferd, Westyn Morris, Landyn Morris, Bryson Morris, Dylan Ruff, Collin Ruff, Kai Hufferd, Ethan Trucks and Brendan Crowley.
