Kenneth "Kenny" DeGraeve Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 22, 2025, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Born on June 15, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, Kenny lived a life rich in both work and family, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Kenny began his career in the family business at DeGraeve's Packing House, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He expanded his professional journey over the years, contributing his efforts to Foote Farms and then Kinney's Plumbing. His most enjoyable job was driving a school bus for children with special needs, in the Blue Valley School District, a role that showcased his compassion and commitment to the community.
A proud member of the Wea Rural High School class of 1964, Kenny maintained a spirited personality, characterized by his wit and sharp sense of humor. He took great pride in his heritage as a full-blooded Belgian, a reflection of his strong roots and connection to his culture.
On August 23, 1975, Kenny married the love of his life, Carmen Strausbaugh. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They were just a month shy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Kenny was a proud member of the Wea Mens Club, a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Wea Council, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea parish.
Outside of his professional life, Kenny derived immense joy from outdoor activities, often spending his time hunting and exploring nature. His spirit of adventure extended to traveling with the "Wea gang," a testament to his love for camaraderie and the great outdoors. Above all, Kenny cherished the moments spent with his nine grandchildren—Brooke, Baron, Brody, Karlie, Graham, Riley, Strauss, Charlie, and Duncan—who brought unparalleled joy to his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen DeGraeve; his children, Kenneth "Ramie" (Kelly) DeGraeve Jr., Kendra (Scott) Kunshek, Kaylene (Bryan) Kern, Katrina DeGraeve, and Karmen DeGraeve; his siblings, Nancy (Brad) White, Marian (Wayne) Seuferling, and Steve (Linda) DeGraeve; and his cherished grandchildren.
Kenny is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lorene DeGraeve, and his brother, Allen DeGraeve.
