Jon Gary Mietchen, born on November 13, 1939, in Waverly, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home in Kansas City, Kansas, on March 4, 2026. He was the beloved son of Andrew and Roberta (Bidleman) Mietchen and was a cherished member of both his family and community.

After graduation, Jon served his country for seven years in the United States Navy. Following his military service, Jon embarked on a successful entrepreneurial journey, launching his own residential siding business, inspired by his father, Andy, who had also made his mark in the siding industry. A self-employed man throughout his working career, Jon retired in the early 2000s, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.

Jon’s personal life was marked by significant relationships and experiences. He was married to Shirley (Boyer) Sjogren, with whom he shared two children. Later, Jon married Vicki Corder, with whom he spent more than 20 years until her passing in 2006. Eventually, he found love again with Nora Tibai, with whom he enjoyed a loving partnership for 18 years.

Jon is survived by his loving partner, Nora Tibai, as well as his devoted children: son, Dan Mietchen (Toni) of Ottawa, Kansas; daughters Julie Mietchen of Ottawa, Kansas, and Ashley Stacey (Cameron) of Hayden, Alabama. He also leaves behind stepchildren April (Darren) Rager of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brad (Mindy) Corder of St. Louis, Missouri, and Cara (Brad) Pendley of Memphis, Tennessee. Jon will be missed by his sisters, Linda Clevenger of Baldwin City, Kansas, Connie Mietchen, and brother Jim Mietchen of Baldwin City, Kansas. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Kasi Carner (Cory), Kelsey Hirschman (CJ), Jamie Ojeda, Derek Mietchen (Angie), and Evan Mietchen (Chelsea), along with his 24 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He also shared a great bond with his nephews Justin Mietchen, Jeff Clevenger, Jeremy Clevenger and niece, Angela Carpinella.

Jon was a man of many interests. He found solace and happiness in fishing, hunting and traveling. His adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors added richness to his life and created lasting memories for those who knew him.

He will be remembered for his steadfast commitment to family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the warmth he shared with everyone, fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Jon leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and resilience that will forever resonate within the hearts of his family and friends.

Cremation is planned with services to be held at a later date.
