Listen to Obituary

John Michael Martin, age 81, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where he and his wife, Phyllis, had been residing for the last two years. Born on December 10, 1943, in Callao, Missouri, John spent his formative years in a close-knit community, graduating high school in 1960, before moving to Kansas City at the age of 17. His passion for automobiles led him to pursue an education in automotive mechanics, which paved the way for a fulfilling career.

For over 30 years, John dedicated himself to Graves Auto Service in Kansas City, Kansas. Known for his ornery personality, John was truly the life of the party, finding joy in making others laugh. He embodied a spirit of warmth and humor that drew people to him, leaving a lasting impression on friends and family alike.

On September 28, 1963, John married his loving wife, Phyllis Jean Trageser, at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea Catholic Church. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter. John's faith was evident as a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg, where he actively participated in the community. He also found camaraderie in the Knights of Columbus Council #12437 in Louisburg.

John was known for his deep love of family. He delighted in spending time with his children—Tammy, Pamela, Carmela, and John. His role as a grandparent was filled with joy, as he became a cherished figure in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether he was mowing the yard, planting vibrant flowers, or reminiscing about his younger years spent hunting and golfing, John found his greatest happiness in the love and laughter shared with his family.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis; their four children; Tammy Martin, Pamela (Chris) Vohs, Carmela (Chris Buckley) Martin, and John (Michele) Martin sister, Jeanie (Ralph) Houpt; brother, Kevin (Auria) Martin; along with his adoring 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Martin, and his two sisters, Sonya (Bobby) George and Sharon Skinner.

While John may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His laughter, his dedication to family, and his life filled with love will serve as a guiding light for all who carry his memory forward.
