Jimmy Cates, 61, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Kansas City, Kansas. Born on February 16, 1965, in Butler, Missouri, Jimmy’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his craft and his generous spirit that touched the lives of many.

Growing up in Louisburg, Kansas, and Oak Grove, Missouri, Jimmy developed a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others that defined his career and personal life. He was a master electrician who owned and operated his own business, Cates Electric, for many years. More recently, he worked alongside his cousin, continuing to share his expertise and commitment to his trade. His technical skill was matched only by his willingness to lend a hand, always putting others before himself.

Jimmy’s personality was characterized by his selflessness and kindness. He was known for being a great father and a genuinely nice, easy-going man who was well-loved by all who knew him. His laid-back nature made him approachable and a true source of comfort and support within his community and family.

Outside of his professional life, Jimmy enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and spending quality time on his boat. These hobbies were a reflection of his love for the outdoors and spending moments of peace and joy with those he held dear.

Jimmy is survived by his son, Kory Cates; daughters, Lindsey Gilbert and Courtney Jones; significant other, Angela Cates; grandchildren, Aiden Haynes, Mason Haynes, Ryder Younts, Malaki Wynes, Ezra Wynes, Astrid Jones, and Abel Jones; and his sister, Victoria Cates. Their lives will carry forward the warmth and strength he so generously shared.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Marmon; father, Charles Cates; brother, Chas Cates; and sister, Dora Cates. Their memories remain an integral part of the legacy Jimmy leaves behind.
