Jeremy “J.D.” Lasseter passed away on October 21, 2026, at the age of 44. Born on December 22, 1981, Jeremy is survived by his beloved wife of nearly seven years, Brett Lasseter; his two sons, River and Remy, who brought him immeasurable joy; his parents, Doug and Nancy; his brother, Tom Haynoski; and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins who have been such an important part of his life.
Jeremy was known for never meeting a stranger, his infectious grin, and a spirit that drew people in and made them feel like old friends.
Jeremy earned his bachelor’s degree and built a career in logistics. Throughout his career, he was fortunate to have opportunities provided by some truly special people who believed in him and gave him the chance to prove himself. He began his career at C.H. Robinson, where Tim Whistler hired him and became a lifelong friend. He later continued his career with Wheat State, where Wes Sewel and Paul Titus co-owners and valued “coworker’s “ and friends. They openly shared their faith in Jesus Christ, often drawing upon Bible verses to offer encouragement, guidance, and wisdom. They believed in his abilities and gave him opportunities to learn, grow and develop both personally and professionally. Paul and Wes supported JD to the very end demonstrating their compassion, and commitment to living out their Christian faith.
He brought many qualities to his work and daily life that others admired. He was charming, influential, smooth in manner, and deeply thoughtful. He was also a happy morning person whose energy and infectious smile could brighten the start of anyone’s day.
Outside of work, Jeremy loved sports, especially baseball and football. He was a devoted fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs and loved cheering on his teams.
Jeremy had a big heart for people in need and could not stand to see anyone go hungry. His compassion went beyond words, and he was willing to stand up for what he believed was right. He cared deeply about children who could not afford school lunches and went so far as to stage a sit-in to bring attention to their situation. This was a meaningful example of his generous heart and his belief that everyone deserved to be cared for and treated with dignity.
Family was at the center of Jeremy’s life, and he took tremendous pride in the love and home he and Brett shared with their two boys, River and Remy, who brought them so much joy. Some of his most treasured moments were the simple ones spent together as a family. Playing cards, sharing laughter, enjoying a little friendly competition, and simply being together were special parts of family life. These moments created memories that his family will hold close to their hearts.
Jeremy fought his cancer with everything he had, holding on to hope and doing all he could for the chance to have more time with Brett, his boys, and his mom and dad. His love for his family was at the heart of that fight, and the time they shared meant everything to him. Of all his accomplishments, his marriage to Brett and the family they built together were among those he cherished most.
A memorial gathering for Jeremy will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Crematory, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
