It is with deep sorrow and great love that we announce the passing of Jason Lee Seaman, 53, Born on February 23, 1973 of Ottawa, Kansas, who left this world on May 9, 2026
He graduated from Chapman High School in 1991, forming friendships that lasted decades and becoming the kind of person who never knew a stranger. Friendship meant everything to him, and he had a rare gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and understood.
Above all, Jason was a family man. He shared a devoted marriage of twenty-seven years with his wife, Jennifer, whose partnership and love were the foundation of his life. He was a proud and caring father to his daughter, Katie (Dan Runkle), and his son, Nathan, both of whom were the greatest joys of his world. Jason’s legacy lives on in them-in their strength, their kindness, and the values he instilled.
Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lake; his grandmother, Alma Scammell; and his grandmother, Ivalene Lake. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
He is survived by His sister, Shelly Browning (Rob) and His Brother Matthew Lybarger. Jason also leaves behind cherished extended family who played a meaningful role in his life: his Parents Terry and Shelly Lake; Dr. Larry and Janie Mages; Sarah and Craig Evans; and Dr. Laura and Dr. Rance Erwin. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.
Jason loved the outdoors and found his greatest happiness in nature. He enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, and rock climbing in his Jeep, always seeking the next trail, the next challenge, or the next beautiful view. Colorado held a special place in his heart and was his favorite vacation destination-a place where he felt free, alive, and at peace.
Music was another constant in Jason’s life. He believed every moment had a soundtrack, and he carried songs with him the way others carry memories. For those who loved him, the phrase “one more song” will forever echo as a reminder of his spirit-hopeful, warm, and always ready to share just a little more of himself with the people around him.
Jason will be remembered for his humor, his compassion, his adventurous spirit, and the quiet but powerful way he made life better for others. His absence leaves an ache that words cannot fill, but his memory will continue to guide and comfort those who loved him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS. A memorial service will follow on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Services will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. Graveside services will follow In Peoria, and afterward, a Celebration of Life will be held at the shop, where friends and family can gather to share stories, laughter, and memories in Jason’s honor.
