James L Spruill, Jr.

James L. Spruill, Jr., affectionately known as Jimmy, was born on May 6, 1952, in Ruleville, Mississippi. He lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his dedication to his career in Construction Management and his service in the Navy. After sharing many memorable years with his loving family, he peacefully passed away at home in Ottawa, Kansas on August 20, 2025.

Jimmy's career flourished in the construction industry, where he was appreciated not only for his professional acumen but also for his integrity and commitment to every project he undertook. His colleagues and peers admired him not just for his work, but for the kindness and respect with which he treated others.

Outside of his professional life, Jimmy had a variety of interests that brought joy to both himself and those around him. He was an enthusiastic player of three-card poker and blackjack, always ready to engage in friendly games with family and friends. Additionally, he found pleasure on the greens, enjoying many rounds of golf throughout the years, where his love for the game matched his competitive spirit.

At the heart of Jimmy’s life was his cherished relationship with his beloved wife, Linda (Myers) Spruill. Their bond was a source of strength and joy, enriching their years together.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Linda; step-children Junior Gipson (Erin), Krystal Gipson (Richard), Bryan Gipson (Mandi), Doug Gipson (Amanda), and Kris Gipson (Hannah); seventeen grandchildren; one great grandchild and another due in December; siblings Janice Young, Jackie Spruill (Meg), and Judy Spruill (Alan); along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Jane (Broadway) Spruill and brother Jerry Spruill.

His family and friends will carry forward the memory of the kindness and warmth that he consistently shared, a testament to a life well-lived.

Cremation is planned with no services scheduled at this time.
