Huston Wayne Thornton, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away on September 1, 2026, at The University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on December 4, 1952, in Stidham, Oklahoma, to Ras Berry and Stella (Adams) Thornton.
Throughout his working years, Huston was employed at Divco Wayne Industries in Ottawa, Kansas, and at Leadbetter Mobile Homes in Ottawa, Kansas. He also worked for Lawrence Ready Mix and later devoted himself to mobile home repairs in the Gardner, Kansas area. His work reflected a life spent building, repairing, and serving others through steady effort and practical skill.
Outside of work, Huston was an avid fisherman and hunter. Those who knew him will remember the enjoyment he found in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of time spent doing what he loved.
Huston is survived by his wife, Susan McIntosh. He also leaves behind his sons, Jerry Thornton and Beth of Gardner, Kansas, Jamie Thornton of Ottawa, Kansas, and Eric Thornton and Kathryn of Lawrence, Kansas. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Todd and John of Ottawa, Kansas; brother, Johnny Thornton and Peggy of Lyndon, Kansas; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. These family connections were an important part of his life, and his memory will remain with them in the days ahead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Raymond Thornton; his brother, Glen Thornton; and his sister, Myrtle Burndine Shields.
Huston will be remembered with love by his family and by all who knew him. His life was marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. May his memory bring comfort and peace to those who mourn his passing.
A visitation to celebrate Huston will be held 5-7pm, Friday, September 4, 2026, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 South Hickory Street, Ottawa. Kansas.
