Homer C. “Sonny” Lewis Jr., a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 23, 2026, at the University of Kansas Health System Olathe Hospice House. He was born on June 23, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Homer C. Lewis Sr. and Mildred (Cox) Lewis and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful contributions to his community and family.
Sonny dedicated twenty-five years of his career to Honeywell International Inc., where he found not only a profession but also the love of his life. It was at Honeywell that he met his wife, Sherry Wallis. They shared a deep bond for forty years, celebrating their love through shared experiences and joys.
In addition to his tenure at Honeywell, Sonny later worked for Castle Creations, where he continued to apply his skills and passion until his retirement. Outside of work, Sonny was known for his unwavering support of Kansas City sports teams, his love for classic rock music, and his delectable sweet tooth.
Sonny had a true love for music and classic cars, especially Corvettes. His love started when he bought his first 1960 Corvette Convertible. In his younger days, he loved to play the drums. He was always playing the air drums and singing along to every song.
Sonny will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Sherry Lewis (Wallis); sons, Josh Myers (Melissa), and Donny Lewis (Callie); younger brother, Don Lewis (Charlotte); brother-in-law’s, Russell Wallis (Susie), and Damon Wallis (Jan); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Joel Wallis.
Family meant everything to Sonny. He adored his grandchildren—Gabriel Myers, Griffin Myers, Jace Lewis, Jaret Lewis, Jadon Lewis, and Liam Myers. He also had two bonus granddaughters-- Abbi Kongkindavong, and Kenni Mulick. They all brightened his days and filled his life with joy and laughter. He often expressed how much they meant to him, treasuring every moment they spent together.
In remembrance of Sonny, a visitation will be held on January 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Ottawa Community Church. The church is located at 824 West 17th Street, Ottawa, KS 66067.
