Freeman, Missouri

Listen to Obituary

Glynda Louise Cave was born on Friday, November 8, 1940, to Gladys Louise (Baldwin) Cave & Cecil Cave of Stillwell, Kansas. She was the first born & was the “apple” of her daddy’s eye. Glynda loved to play outside and loved horses, she would watch her daddy train them; and was happiest when he would take her for rides. Later Glynda especially loved her horse Rusty! She spent hours riding Rusty around the countryside and would hold on for dear life when she heard the train coming, because Rusty was going to race that train!

During her high school years, Glynda was active in basketball, played drums in the high school Band and met the love of her life, Roy Gene Stepaniak. Glynda married Roy in October 1957, living in Stilwell for a while, then moving to Spring Hill, Kansas. Glynda & Roy had two children, Jeri Lyn in 1962 and Scott Lee 1968. Glynda worked at Regal Distributing in Kansas City, enjoying most Monday’s & Friday’s off to spend with Family & Friends at the lake! Then in 1973 Glynda went to work as secretary for the athletic director at Spring Hill High School where she also assisted many areas of the school over her 18 years. The athletes would love it when she made them an inch taller, or 5 pounds heavier on the rosters!

Glynda retired in 1991 and She & Roy moved to Clinton, Missouri, where friends introduced them to Square Dancing. Square dancing quickly became a beloved activity that took them all over the area – even leading them to winter in the Rio Grande Valley in Southern Texas. They thoroughly enjoyed square dancing & quickly became part of a group of “Angel Dancers” that lead squares and taught many, many others. Glynda loved their Texas winters, where temps were in the 80’s, friends abounded & the sun shined all winter long! Spring-time always brought her back home though, to spend beloved time with Family, Friends and nurturing her flower beds. Glynda was still working with her plants & flowers even a week before her passing.

Glynda passed very quietly in the comfort of her home on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Glynda leaves behind sister, Reta & Norman Beach of Kansas City, MO, daughter Jeri Barnes of Freeman, MO, son Scott and Margaret Stepaniak of Raymore, MO. 5 grandchildren Hadyn and Tyson Thomas of Gardner, KS, Will Barnes of Harrisonville, MO, Breann and Matt Baumann of Grandview, MO, Nate Stepaniak of Jacksonville, Fl and Natalie Stepaniak of Lee’s Summit, MO. Also, many Nieces, Nephews and Great-Nieces & Nephews.
