Listen to Obituary

Cookie Long, the daughter of Richard and Merna (Weinert) Wallace, passed away peacefully at her home in Overland Park, Kansas, on January 19, 2026. Born on September 1, 1949, in Topeka, Kansas, Cookie's life was marked by her incredible spirit and unwavering dedication to her family.

Cookie was married to her beloved husband, Darrell Long, on January 31, 1970. They first met in Eudora, Kansas, and their love story blossomed into a partnership that flourished over the decades. A devoted caregiver, Darrell lovingly referred to Cookie as his "Bunnie," illustrating the warmth and affection they shared throughout their life together.

Cookie was a vibrant personality who enjoyed the thrill of life, particularly in the form of slot machines and bingo. Notably, she achieved an impressive win rate of 85%, recently celebrating a remarkable $17,000 victory on a 50-cent slot, a testament to her luck and positive manifestation.

She leaves behind a cherished family, including her husband, Darrell; daughter Kristene Canady; sons Jeff Wallace and Derrick Long (Kelly); and beloved grandchildren Jeffy, Ashly (Tim), Trenton, Parker, Brock, Solece, and Solone. Cookie also delighted in the presence of her great-grandchildren, Everett and Ivy, and is survived by her sister, Patty Bateson.

Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, Nan and Poppi, as well as siblings Bill Wallace, Sharon Early, and Elwin Wallace. Her legacy of joy, love, and connection will forever endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cookie will be deeply missed, but her positive attitude in life will always be remembered by her family and friends.

A private family burial is planned.
