Faye Addie Straight

Faye Addie (Finnerty) Straight passed away in AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Hospital on August 9, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in Audubon County, Iowa on August 25, 1936, to parents Thomas and Florence Finnerty.

Faye attended school in Audubon, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She went on to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, graduated and taught elementary school. She married Donald (Don) Straight, her college sweetheart, on July 1, 1956. She followed and supported him during his 20-year career in the US Navy, as they moved and relocated on various Navy bases, including one in Japan. She was a devoted mother to her four children, including her special needs child, Linda. She guided their home during several moves and deployments during Don’s Navy career.

After retirement, Faye and Don moved to Linn Creek, Missouri, at the Lake of the Ozarks. During those years, Faye was active in the Camdenton Methodist Church on many committees and church choirs, Meals on Wheels delivery, Red Hats and PEO. Music was an important part of Faye’s life. Faye and Don met in their college choir and sang together in church choirs for over 40 years. She played the piano and served as an accompanist for several musical groups over the years as well.

Faye is survived by her husband, Don, children Janet Peters and husband Marty, Don Straight, Jr. and wife Leah, and Julie Friend; grandchildren Tom Peters and wife Eliza, Wyatt Peters and wife Logan, Andrew Straight, Abby Straight, Ryan Friend and wife Rylee and Katie Friend; and great grandsons Nolan and Will Peters. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Linda Straight, and brothers Jerry Finnerty, Thomas Finnerty, Jr., Deane Finnerty, Merrill Finnerty and Robert Finnerty.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Hospital for their wonderful and compassionate care during her final illness.

A celebration of Faye’s life is being planned for a later date.
