Evelyn Irene Motter, beloved educator, devoted mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on April 23, 2025, at the Harrah Nursing Home. She was born on January 3, 1927, in Centropolis, Kansas, the daughter of Elmer and Elva (Ramshaw) Gilliland.
Evelyn's journey began with her graduation from Appanoose High School in 1944, followed by the attainment of a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1977. Her passion for teaching led her to instruct young minds for ten years at Warner-Robbins Christian Academy in Warner Robins, Georgia.
On May 9, 1943, she united in marriage to Francis LeeRoy Motter, and together they built a life filled with love and adventure. They initially resided in Ottawa, Kansas, where Evelyn lived until the age of 28. Following this, she moved with Francis during his military career, eventually returning to Ottawa.
Evelyn was deeply involved in her faith as a former member of the Centropolis Baptist Church, and a current member of the Del Baptist Temple in Del City, Oklahoma. Her musical talents shined as a pianist, and she found joy in traveling, handwork, and spending quality time with family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Dyer (Gene) of Ottawa, Kansas; son, Michael Roy Motter (Dollie) of Harrah, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Linda Motter of Ottawa, Kansas; son-in-law, Jerry Hemingway of Elk City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Lyneese Wright, Aaron Hemingway, Monty Dyer, Chad Motter, Kenzie Delp; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Evelyn also leaves behind her sister, Anna Belle Billingsley of San Antonio, Texas.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband Francis, son, Gary Lee Motter; daughter, Diana Lynn Hemingway; granddaughter, Amy Hemingway, and her brother, Leland "Bud" Gilliland of Ottawa, Kansas
Evelyn Motter’s legacy will be remembered through the lives she touched, her indelible contributions to her community, and the love she instilled in her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, Kansas, on May 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The family invites those who knew Evelyn to join in honoring her life and legacy.
