Listen to Obituary

Eula Mae Nitcher, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Pomona, Kansas on August 9, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on March 13, 1934, in Lyndon, Kansas, Eula lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments spent with her family. Kenneth and Eula united in marriage, August 9, 1953, sharing exactly 72 years of hard work and dedication.

Eula was a woman of great warmth and kindness, known for her loving spirit and her famous way of expressing care. When she said, "Be careful, watch for the deer", it carried the meaning of "I love you!"—a reflection of her nurturing nature. Her interests were diverse, from enjoying overnight camping trips by the creek to relishing bus trips with friends and taking walks in the field (otherwise known as her church). She took delight in attending her grandchildren’s various events, always acting as their proud supporter. Eula also possessed a unique talent for matchmaking, bringing people together in her own special way.

Throughout her life, Eula was surrounded by a loving family who will miss her deeply. She is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Nitcher; sons, Ted Nitcher (Carolyn), Tom Nitcher (Julie), Gerry Nitcher (Robin); brothers Kenneth Sloop, Dale Sloop (Pat), Arlon Sloop (Frances); sisters Evelyn Hope-Jones, Norma Miller (Gary) and Kathy Tevis (Don); as well as her precious grandchildren, Amanda Wadkins (Justin), Andrew Nitcher (Jill), Tanner Nitcher, Tyler Nitcher (Kaitlyn), Joey Nitcher (Tana), Sean Nitcher (Sara), Laura Phelps (John), Melanie Slaughter (JD), Meredith Sawyer (Bryce), Greg Nitcher (Chloe); seventeen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her legacy will continue through them, and the bonds she built will forever remain in their hearts.

Eula was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Berneita (Fanning) Sloop; sister, Jean Burns-Johnson; infant sister Rose Ann Sloop; and brothers LD Sloop, Don Sloop, and Bill Sloop

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Eula's life at a graveside service on August 22, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas, where she will be laid to rest. This day will be an opportunity to commemorate the beautiful life she lived and the enduring impact she had on those around her.

The family suggests memorial contributions to (Kenneth Nitcher) c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067
