Eugene “Gene” Joseph Bromert, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at Rock Creek of Ottawa Nursing Home in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on August 23, 1935, in Carroll, Iowa, to William and Levina Bromert.
Gene lived a life marked by deep devotion—to his family, his passions, and the simple joys found in each day. He shared 56 remarkable years of marriage with his late wife, Geraldine Fae Bromert, building a partnership rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they explored the country, journeying side by side and collecting memories that became treasured stories within the Bromert family.
A dedicated farmer throughout his life, Gene found fulfillment nurturing the land. As the seasons passed, so did his interests evolve; in later years, he developed a fondness for horses, delighting in their companionship and strength. Always captivated by the rumble and spirit of muscle cars, he especially admired Corvettes and the Dodge RT. These passions brought him joy and forged connections with friends and fellow enthusiasts.
When the chill of winter set in, Gene followed the sun south to Texas, embracing new experiences and friendships with Geraldine. Their travels reflected the curiosity and adventurous spirit that defined Gene’s approach to life—a willingness to discover the world anew, again and again.
Family always held a place of utmost importance in Gene’s heart. He is survived by his son, Mark Bromert, and grandsons, Aaron, Neal, Ryan and Mark Douglas, who carry forward his legacy of warmth, humor, and generosity. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine; his daughter, Linda Douglas; his father, William Bromert; and his mother, Levina Bromert.
Gene leaves behind a legacy not only of hard work and dedication but of kindness, loyalty, and a life richly lived. The memory of his gentle guidance and infectious enthusiasm will remain in the hearts of those privileged to have known him.
A memorial service honoring Gene’s life will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Crematory, located at 235 S Hickory St, Ottawa, KS 66067.
