Ella M. (Ohlmeier) Hinman, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven, while surrounded by her loved ones. As the 5th of 6 children born to Albert and Anna (Prothe) Ohlmeier, while growing up on the farm, she realized that farm living was not the life for her. She was baptized on May 16, 1948, attended First Lutheran grade school, was confirmed in her faith on April 15, 1962, and graduated from Paola High School in 1966. She started her work with Taylor Forge, and continued on to work for other businesses in Paola. She was united in marriage to Wayne Rone, who preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to Dennis L. Hinman and spent 57 years with him growing a family and living a life of service. Her volunteer service at First Lutheran Church included teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, The Lutheran Braille Workers, Mary Martha Circle, tacking comforts for missions, holiday gift baskets and serving many dinners and Chili and Chicken Noodle suppers. She was also involved in her children's activities, including Brownies, 4-H (she was a member of the Willowbranch 4-H club as a child), Tri-County Girls Softball (serving as the secretary), and provided a fun space for her grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, and the neighborhood children with plenty of sand, toys, Easter eggs to color, and cold treats for them to enjoy. She and her husband were caregivers to family members young and older.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, using cake flour and not a box mix, to make her carrot and German chocolate cakes. One of the family favorites were her peanut butter twists. As an avid bridge player, she could be found playing at several bridge groups or with family. She got her husband to start playing bridge; however, he didn't really pick up at the "etiquette" of bridge. She enjoyed gardening and if you ever drove by their house on the corner, you would be able to admire all of her flower gardens. Facebook allowed her to stay in touch with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings: Edith Moser, Wilbur Ohlmeier, and Jean Kaiser. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, children, Paula Hinman, Lawrence and John (Becky) Hinman, grandsons, Jake (Jazmin) Hinman and Trevor Hinman, and her handsome great-grandson, Patrick Hinman, all of Paola, sister, Norlene Medlin, Paola, and brother, Lee Ohlmeier, Dodge City, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church Endowment c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary-Paola Chapel 305 N. Pearl St. Paola, KS 66071.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, beginning at 10:00am with a funeral service to follow beginning at 11:00am, at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Paola Cemetery.
