Edward W. Hurlbut, aged 95, of Paola, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Chase, Kansas, on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Born on January 23, 1931, in Morland, Kansas, to Ellen Palmer Hurlbut and Vernon Hurlbut, Edward lived a life marked by dedication and love.
Edward honorably served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. On September 4, 1955, he married Vida Lea Keith in Hill City, Kansas. The couple initially resided in Independence, Kansas, before settling in the Paola area in 1964. Edward dedicated many years to Hillsdale Feed and Grain until his retirement. He was a devoted worker and a loving father to six children, cherishing time spent with fellow veterans, coworkers, and his beloved family. After Vida retired, she and Ed traveled to many areas of the world including Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vida, his son Darrell, his sister Arlene Best, and his brother Howard Hurlbut. Edward will be deeply missed by family and friends who knew and loved him.
Surviving Ed are his children, Rodney Hurlbut, Velinda Gillespie, Ronald Hurlbut, David Hurlbut, and Michelle Hurlbut., eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Jenny, Alex, Samantha, Makenzie, Nick, Aaron and Bradley, thirteen great-grandchildren, Mason, Milee, Noah, Grant, Jordan, Paisley, Payton, Hudson, Nicholas, Jake, Hunter, Easton, and Zoe and two great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Nicholas Jr..

Graveside Service Saturday 10 am at the Miami Memorial Gardens Cemetery
