Doris Ann Bridges, born on February 17, 1941, in Ottawa, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Richmond, Kansas. She was 85 years old.
A lifelong resident of Ottawa and a graduate of Ottawa High School, Doris devoted much of her life to her family and community. She was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in many pursuits including reading, traveling on vacations, bowling, walking, and watching birds—activities that enriched her days and brought her much happiness.
Doris married Cecil "Bud" Bridges on April 6, 1957, in Ottawa, Kansas. Their union lasted an impressive sixty-eight years until his passing on December 22, 2025. Her life was marked by enduring love and commitment, serving as a foundation for their family.
She was the daughter of Kendall and Frances (Lilly) Lucas. Doris was privileged to be a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary, a testament to her community spirit and dedication to supporting veterans and their families.
Doris is survived by her loving daughter Debra Bridges of Ottawa, Kansas; her sons Brian Bridges (Niki) of Florida, and Kevin Bridges (Dana) of Richmond, Kansas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren—Raymond Ott-Jensen, Hillary Ott-Jensen, Kendall Ott-Jensen, Maia Bridges, Tessa Bridges, Morgan Bridges, and Madison Bridges—as well as four great-grandchildren whose lives she touched deeply, and brother Charles Lucas (Amanda) of Ottawa, Kansas.
Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband Cecil "Bud" Bridges, her parents Kendall and Frances Lucas; sisters Shirley Garrett and Janet Wallace; and brothers Kendall Lucas, Jim Lucas, and William Lucas.
Visitation will be held on June 5, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 S Hickory Street, Ottawa, Kansas. Following visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, 1050 East 15th Street, Ottawa, Kansas.
Doris devoted her life to family, community, and cherished traditions. Her legacy of love, service, and joyful living will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a lasting example of kindness and devotion that will continue to inspire her family and community for generations to come.
