Donna Mae (Huston) Tenk, 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to service at 9:00 A.M. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Donna was born Friday, November 6, 1931 in Quinter, Kansas, the daughter of Harold E. and Wilma Ferne (Metsker) Huston. She was a near lifelong Ottawa resident. She graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1950. Donna was married to Robert William Bulmer in 1950. They were divorced and he later preceded her in death in 1985. She married Merle Birckhead in 1961. He preceded her in death in July 1995. Donna was united in marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Tenk May 2, 1999, in Ottawa. He also preceded her in death on February 26, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and son, Rick Bulmer. Survivors include her son, Greg Bulmer and wife Amy of Ottawa; daughter, Chanda (Birckhead) Hillhouse of Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bulmer of Ottawa; siblings, Loila “Skip” McNally of Gastonia, North Carolina, Ronald Huston and wife Paula of Sarasota, Florida, and Gloria Barker and husband Jack of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren, Brock Bulmer of Overland Park, Kyle Bulmer of Baldwin City, Payton Bulmer of Chicago, Illinois, Robi Murray of Lawrence, Ricky Bulmer of Olathe, Sean Benjamin Bulmer of Olathe, and Jesse Burgoon of Louisburg; and nine great grandchildren. Donna was employed as a clerk typist for the United States government where she transcribed military documents. She worked in the business office for Southwestern Bell in Ottawa, and was later employed at Farmers Home Administration, until retirement in 1992 after 26 years as assistant county director. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Inter Se (a social lunch group), and Ottawa Lodge 803 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Donna enjoyed traveling and hosting family gatherings, making quilts for her grandchildren, jewelry, shopping and socializing.
