Don Rankin

Don Rankin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Paola, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family on July 27, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1942, in Drexel, Missouri, and through the years became a cherished member of his community and a source of unwavering support to those who knew him.

Don married Nancy Jobe in August of 1965, at the First Baptist Church in Louisburg, beginning a partnership rooted in love, harmony, and steadfast commitment. Together, they made their home in Louisburg and later in Somerset, where Don lived from 1984 until his passing. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, weathering life’s joys and sorrows side by side.

Throughout his life, Don worked with integrity and diligence at several establishments, including Indian Hills Golf Course, JD Dry Wall, Barnes Electric, and Town Oil, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service. His steadfast work ethic and helpful spirit endeared him to colleagues and customers alike.

Don’s passion for life was not limited to his professional pursuits. He deeply enjoyed watching NASCAR and KU Basketball, but his greatest joy came from being present when his children and grandchildren played sports. These moments of shared excitement and pride were among his most treasured, providing memories that will carry forward through generations. In quieter times, Don loved nothing more than simply spending time with his family, finding the greatest fulfillment in their company.

His early years were enriched by the camaraderie and energy he shared with his brothers and friends, especially as they worked on cars and hot rods out at the house. These were times of laughter, learning, and brotherhood, forming the foundation for lifelong friendships and fond recollections.

Don is survived by his loving wife Nancy, who remained his constant companion and confidant through the decades. He leaves behind a proud legacy through his children: Connie (Gary Goos) Rankin and Donnie (Tracy) Rankin, both of whom carry forward his values and cherished memories. Don was also a deeply devoted grandfather to Angie (Rob) Meyer, Jennifer (Ty) Howard, Julie Vanskike, Josh Grigsby, Tanner (Erica) Rankin, Cheyenne (Mason) Bell, Rusty (Harlee) Grigsby, and Dalton (Samantha) Rankin, as well as 16 great grandchildren. The bond he shared with each grandchild was evident in his enthusiastic support at their sporting events and his guiding presence in their lives. Don’s sister-in-law, Betty Rankin, also survives him, sharing in the loving memories of his character and kindness.

Don was predeceased by his father, Clarence Rankin, and his mother, Opal Rankin, both of whom laid the foundation of a close-knit and caring family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl Grigsby—whose memory remained close to his heart—as well as by his brothers Cliff, Charlie, Danny and Norman Rankin, his sister Barbara Macoubrie, and his sister-in-law Janie Rankin.

Don's legacy is one of dedication, kindness, and heartfelt generosity. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, Friday, July 31, 2026, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Louisburg Chapel, 1 Aquatic Drive, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Graveside service will follow at 11:30 am, at the Louisburg Cemetery.
