Dianne Lynn Harris, 67, passed away on April 26, 2026, at Saint Luke's Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on January 22, 1959, in Madison, Wisconsin, where she grew up and attended school. Her early years were marked by a spirit of adventure, as she traveled around the country as a side seat trucker before making Kansas City her home in 1986 when she became pregnant with her son Josh. Two years later, in 1988, she earned an associate’s degree in Accounting from Penn Valley Community College, laying the foundation for a dedicated career in the field.
Dianne devoted many years to her work as an accountant across various organizations until her retirement. Her professional life was characterized by diligence and commitment, traits that were mirrored in her personal interactions. Known for her warm and engaging personality, she was a social butterfly who could strike up a conversation with anyone. Those who knew her remember a loving, caring individual who was the life of any gathering, a free spirit with an easygoing nature, and an ardent lover of animals.
Her passions extended beyond her profession and social circles; she cherished the outdoors, finding joy in gardening, tending flowers, and fishing trips. Time spent on the water in a boat brought her peace and pleasure, reflecting her deep affinity for nature. Dianne was also an avid animal lover, frequently donating food and supplies to local animal shelters and rescue organizations, demonstrating her boundless compassion and generosity.
In February 2026, Dianne & Josh embraced a new chapter by moving to Prescott, Kansas, to be closer with nature more and slow down from the city life. Her family was a central source of love and support throughout her life and especially at its end. She passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends, a testament to the deep connections she nurtured.
Dianne is survived by her son, Joshua Smith, and daughter, Katherine Telvick; her brothers, Richard Birkemeier and Jim Birkemeier; her sisters, Catt Piotrowski and Chris Hansen; and her beloved grandchildren, Titan, Naszier, Marax, and Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and William, her sister Donna, and her grandchild Katie.
Dianne's legacy is one of kindness, vitality, and an unyielding zest for life. She will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her—a remarkable woman whose spirit will continue to inspire and whose memory will remain cherished.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to your local animal rescue in memory of Dianne.
