Listen to Obituary

Delphia J. Donnelly, of Bucyrus, Kansas, known fondly as Big Red and later as Nanny, departed this life on December 29, 2025, at the age of 87 in Pomona, Kansas. Born on November 14, 1938, in Camdenton, Missouri, Delphia's journey through life was marked by her fierce independence, loving nature, and an unwavering spirit.

Growing up in Camdenton, she pursued her education, ultimately broadening her horizons by living in Kansas City, California, Philadelphia, Shawnee, and Overland Park, Kansas, before settling in Bucyrus in 1983. A long-time hairdresser, Delphia dedicated many years of her career to operating Creators Hair Style, where she built cherished relationships with her clients and colleagues alike, leaving a lasting impact in her community.

Delphia's personality was as vibrant as her nickname suggested; she was loving, caring, and not one to shy away from speaking her mind. She was fiercely independent, a characteristic that endeared her to many who knew her. In addition to her impressive career, Delphia was also a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She took immense pride in being involved in her children's activities and later those of her grandchildren. Her passion for horses was evident as she enjoyed riding and caring for them, fulfilling the role of a show mom with gusto.

Beyond her family and career, Delphia had a deep affection for her dogs, Sam and Ellie, who brought joy and companionship to her life. She devoutly prayed the daily rosary and Devine Mercy. She was a longtime member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Wea Catholic Church. Delphia truly enjoyed helping set up the adoration chapel at Wea, in its early stages.

Delphia is survived by her loving children, Theresa Donnelly, Jenifer (Bob) Strange, and Joe (Zoe) Donnelly. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy through her eight grandchildren: Jennifer Koirala, Kora Meier, Caitlin Donnelly, Bill Strange, Michael Strange, David Strange, Joe Strange, and Maggie Strange, as well as nine great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward. Delphia is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Koehler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Frances Clopp, son, Wallace Donnelly, and her siblings: Glenn Clopp, Jean Clopp, Kenneth Clopp, Carol Clopp, and Paula Paige.

Delphia's life was a testament to resilience, love, and a zest for life that will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
