With profound sadness, the family of Dee announces his passing and celebrates the extraordinary life he lived. Dee will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Cemetery in Agricola, Kansas, surrounded by the community and countryside he cherished so deeply.
A longtime member of Williamsburg Methodist Church, Dee lived a life guided by faith, service, and steadfast love for his family and community. His funeral service will be officiated by clergy Kathleen Whittmore.
Dee dedicated many years of hard work to Ottawa Truck, American Eagle, and the City of Williamsburg, but his most treasured role of all was being a full-time grandpa. Nothing brought him more joy or pride than time spent with his grandchildren. His son, Jon Horne, and daughter, Heather Froggatte, were the apples of his eye. Their unbreakable bond with their dad was visible to all who knew them.
Dee is survived by his beloved sisters, Jeanine Cameron and her children, and Leanna Horne and her children. His former wife, Cindy Stoneking, remained his lifelong friend, sharing daily conversations with him up until his passing along with Cindy’s sister Patty and husband Chris Boggs remain close friends through his life and often shared Sunday dinners together. Dee’s deep and abiding love extended to his grandchildren: Myranda Froggatte and wife Rowan Froggatte, Addey Grace Froggatte, Travell Froggatte, Breck Froggatte, and Mia Froggatte. He was also a cherished “bonus grandpa” to the children next door—Curtis, Aubrey, Levi, and Isaiah—who brought added joy and energy to his days. Isaiah especially loved visiting Grandpa’s house, sneaking snacks, and soaking up every moment with him.
Breck and Dee shared a special bond—best friends who enjoyed trips to the cow sale, meals out, and hours of tinkering side by side. These simple moments were Dee’s favorites.
Dee loved his cattle, his farm, and especially his baby calves. He was a proud member of the Power of the Past Tractor Club, served on the Williamsburg Recreation Commission Board, the Williamsburg Library Board, the Williamsburg Community Club, and was an active member of the Jayhawker Booster Club. He was the driving force behind many community events in Williamsburg, frequently cooking for gatherings and ensuring everyone felt welcome. In many ways, Dee was the glue that kept the wheels of his hometown turning.
If you saw Dee, you likely remember him in his blue jeans, denim shirt, and signature white comb-over hairstyle, a glass of iced tea in hand. He loved food—all kinds of food—and treasured meals shared with his children, sisters, Cindy, and his grandchildren.
Dee also held close ties with family in Alabama, where he found peace walking the sandy beaches and visiting loved ones.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Kathryn (Decker) Horne, and his brother-in-law, Bud Cameron.
Pallbearers are Breck Froggatte, Travell Froggatte, Brian Boeger and Jeremy Branson. Honorary Pallbearers are Matt Froggatte, Chris Boggs, and Dean Trimble.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Williamsburg Community Library or Williamsburg United Methodist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
Dee leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit. His absence leaves a hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Williamsburg community. There will never be another quite like Dee—steady, devoted, and always ready to lend a hand. His memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched and the community he helped strengthen.
We love you Dad,
Jon and Heather
