Hartmann, 67, of Ottawa, Kansas died on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on Wednesday, July 9, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Albert and Clara (Franchere) Hartmann. RESIDENCE HISTORY: David grew up in Chicago, moving to Elgin, Illinois in 1975 and Ottawa, Kansas in 1997. EDUCATION: David graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago with the class of 1959 and attended DePaul University. OCCUPATION & BUSINESS: He was employed for eighteen years as a Systems Analyst for TransUnion in Chicago; Towerman for Illinois Central Railroad; Data Processor for Spiegel, Inc. in Chicago; First Data in Lenexa, Kansas; and presently worked part-time as a news reporter for KOFO Radio and writer for Ottawa Herald Newspaper. He was also an author and published two books, `The Other Key` and `The Lowtoma Files and 25 Other Stories` and taught writing classes at the Ottawa Library. GOVERNMENT SERVICE: He served as a SPC 4 in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. MEMBERSHIPS: He was a member of St. Josep Catholic Church in Elgin, Illinois; National Model Railroad Assoc.; LGB Model Railroad Club of America, serving two years as President of the Chicago Chapter; and American Legion. MARRIAGE: On July 19, 1968, David was united in marriage with Darlene Bennett in Chicago, Illinois. She survives of their home. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hartmann at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 4:00 to 5:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Athena Powell College Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
