Dale made his way to Paola in 1967, riding in his '56 Chevy while working on the pipeline.
Dale proudly served as a pipefitter for Local Pipefitters 171 Wichita, KS, then moving onto General Motors as a maintenance pipefitter for two decades as a member of United Auto Workers Local 31, which reflected his commitment to craftsmanship and labor. In addition to his career at General Motors, he utilized his skills in owning a welding shop for many years, repairing and selling farm equipment and further solidifying his position as a businessman in his community. During the time that Dale had the welding shop, he and his wife built commercial buildings that are now being rented for auto repair. Dale was known for his way of negotiation, always able to make a good deal.
A graduate of Windom High School, class of 1963, Dale's personality was marked by his forthrightness, as he always spoke his mind while also having a joyful spirit, often enamored with a good joke. Dale never knew a stranger, he was able to make a friend wherever he went. His hobbies included restoring old tractors and reveling in music, especially the melodies of his grandson, Cole. The love for exploration was evident in Dale and his wife's retirement travels, where they journeyed across the country in their fifth wheel RV, making unforgettable memories, even venturing as far as Alaska. Dale also harbored a deep appreciation for classic cars, a passion that mirrored his lifelong interest in craftsmanship and machinery.
Dale married Lila Stanchfield on August 31, 1968, in Paola. Together they shared 57 years of marriage and two children. They built their home together in 1972, where their roots are still growing.
