Claudia May (Gentry) Payne was born on Sunday, July 24, 1910, in Richmond, Kansas. She was the daughter of Earnest C. and Anna May (Titus) Gentry. Claudia was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas. In 1992, she moved from Ottawa to Lebo. In 2005, she moved to Gran Villas in Osage City, then to Sunset Manor in Waverly, where she made her home until her death on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at the age of ninety-six years. She was a graduate of Waverly High School with the class of 1928. Claudia was a homemaker and, for a few years, worked at Raney's Drug Store in Ottawa. She was a devoted member of Ottawa Bible Church and Christian Women's Club, holding several offices, including prayer advisor and name tag chairman. Sharing her Biblical knowledge and faith was so important to Claudia, and for many years, she taught child evangelism classes. She enjoyed her homemaking skills. She was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. Her door was always open. Many enjoyed her delicious meals. Also, corresponding with her family and friends was extremely meaningful to her.
