Kate was the first of four children, born on September 9, 1956, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Charles E. and Georgia J. (Fisher) Hamilton. She married Wiley Bogue on August 28, 1975, at the First Methodist Church of Ottawa. They later divorced in 1977, and Wiley preceded her in death in 2007. Kate remarried on February 18, 1983, to John Peetz at the Osage County Courthouse in Lyndon, Kansas. John passed away in September of 1988.
Kate was preceded in death by her father, Charles “Charlie” Hamilton; her aunt, Irene Herron (Hamilton); her daughter, Kristina Smith; her nephew, T.J. Yohe; and her brother-in-law, Buster Lewis.
She is survived by her mother, Georgia “Jean” Hamilton-Lowrance of Williamsburg, Kansas; her aunts, Ann Sluder of Homewood, Kansas, and Betty Mitchell of Burlington, Kansas; her lifelong friend, Michelle Dusang of Ottawa, Kansas; her sisters, Edie (Jim) Behanna of Pearland, Texas, and Chris (Buster) Lewis of College Station, Texas; her brother, Jim (Lori) Hamilton of Williamsburg, Kansas; her son, CW (Brandy) Peetz of Ottawa, Kansas; and her son-in-law, Chris Smith of Burlington, Kansas. She also leaves behind nieces Mary (Chris) McBee of Gardner, Kansas; Casha Yohe of Overbrook, Kansas; Sarah Thompson of Pearland, Texas; Ruby Hamilton of Garnett, Kansas; Mandy (Terry) Hamilton of Pomona, Kansas; nephew Wyatt Hamilton of Williamsburg, Kansas; Jason Chapman, of Ottawa, Kansas; and many other cherished family members and friends.
To know Kate was to know someone truly unforgettable. As her dear friend Michelle once said, she was “a more complex person than what people thought” a one-of-a-kind soul with a heart of pure gold. Anyone who spent time with her learned quickly that shoes were optional, instant tea and cigarettes were non-negotiable, and her sarcastic sense of humor could brighten even the hardest day… most of the time.
Kate was a collector through and through, action figures, memories, and critters of all kinds. Over the years, she cared for a wide assortment of pets and livestock, and she found joy in everything from attending Comic-Con conventions to checking cattle with loved ones. Horses held a special place in her heart, especially a beloved palomino paint mare named Maggie.
Above all, Kate loved her family and friends fiercely, with a devotion that never wavered. She poured her creativity into countless projects, including her well-known talent behind a sewing machine crafting Barbie clothes, tiny works of art made with big love. She was also known for her beautiful handwriting, the kind that turned even a simple note into something worth keeping.
Kate leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and stories that will be told for generations. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
