It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol Ann Miller at her home on July 20, 2026, at the age of 66.
She was born on October 12, 1959, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Joseph (Bernard) and Shirley Loftus. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1978, where she excelled in track and field for the Vikings.
In 1976, she met and fell in love with her husband, Layman Miller, and they were united in marriage on September 9, 1978. Together they moved to Ottawa, Kansas where they called home for more than 40 years. Carol held various positions at Wal-Mart for over 35 years where she built lifelong friendships in the community.
Carol was a proud and loving mother to her four children - Melinda (Mindy), Derek, Eric, and Brent; and an adoring grandmother. She was an avid sports fan, loved watching her Jayhawks and cheering on her children and grandchildren in their numerous sporting activities. Her creativity was seen at her sewing machine, where she spent countless hours quilting and crafting.
Family was the cornerstone of Carol’s life, she was never happier than when the house was full of noise, laughter and the people she loved the most. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Layman Miller, daughter Melinda Neeley (Luke), twin sons Derek Miller (Shannon) and Eric Miller (Brooke), youngest son Brent Miller (Mindi), brother John Loftus and Sherry Loftus. In addition her seven grandchildren - Ella, Noah, Madison, Hudson, Blake, Bailey and Beau. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents Joseph (Bernard) and Shirley Loftus.
Carol’s intense love for her family, resilience, beautiful smile and contagious laugh will never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on July 26, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS. At the same location, a funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m., July 27, 2026. Interment will follow at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, KS.
