Beverly Lou Hughes, cherished daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 1, 2026, at Rock Creek of Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on August 4, 1932, in Logan, Iowa, to Merle W. and Kathryn V. (Walters) Heckman. Beverly's journey through life was marked by compassion, dedication, and a spirit of independence that inspired all who were fortunate to know her.

Beverly attended Rantoul High School, from which she graduated in 1951. On November 9, 1952, she united in marriage to Floyd B. Hughes in Ottawa, Kansas. Their union was one filled with love and mutual support until his passing on September 1, 2009.

Beverly's professional career included eighteen years as an assembler at King Radio-Allied Signal in Ottawa, where she took pride in her work until her retirement in 1991. Her contributions to her community extended beyond her career; she was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school classes for children and served as a greeter, welcoming individuals with her warm smile and heartfelt kindness.

In her leisure, Beverly indulged in various hobbies that brought her joy. She was skilled in crocheting, knitting, sewing, and baking—activities she used to create cherished memories with her family. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and was an avid fan of Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas City Royals baseball, often rooting passionately for her favorite teams. Her love for family was paramount in her life, and she spent countless moments creating lasting connections with her loved ones.

Beverly is survived by her sons, Gary Hughes (Christy) and Chris Hughes (Noy); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion that will continue to inspire her family for generations to come.

Along with her husband Floyd, she is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sisters, Dellaverne Harris and Wynona L. Van Sickle.

A visitation will be held on February 10, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 S Hickory St, Ottawa, KS. A funeral service will follow on February 11, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM, also at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Beverly will be laid to rest in interment at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, KS, at 11:00 AM after the service.

Her spirit will remain a guiding light to her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
