Betty Pauline Flora

Betty Pauline Flora, age 97, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, May 12, 2025 at AdventHealth Ottawa in Ottawa, Kansas.

Cremation is planned with a memorial visitation to be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Inurnment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Centropolis, Kansas.

She was born on Monday, November 21, 1927 in Rantoul, Kansas, the daughter of David Riley and Iva Estella (McKenzie) Jones. With the exception of a few years and their time spent at the lakes, she has always lived in Ottawa.

Betty graduated from Kaub School in 1939.

She worked twenty-three years at Woolworth’s in Ottawa, retiring when the store was closed. She later worked a short time at Wal-Mart and then as gate attendant and campground manager for the Corps of engineers from 1991 until 2000; first for a year at Kanapolis Lake in Kansas and then nine years at Pomme de Terre in Missouri.

On Saturday, July 15, 1944, Betty was united in marriage with Francis Robert Flora at Menomonie, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, David and Iva Jones; step mother, Effie Jones; infant daughter, Mary Frances Flora; brother Richard Jones; half-brother Glen Jones; half-sisters Letha Coulter and Shirley Warren; and grandson, Darrin Crooks.

Betty is survived by daughters, Wanda Crooks and her husband, Dick of Ottawa, Carol Beckner and her husband, Kenneth of Green Valley, Arizona, Betty Archer and her husband, Wayne of Ottawa, Marg Dunkin and her husband, Dale of Ottawa, and Kathryn Miller and her husband, Calvin of Ottawa, and son, David W. Flora and his wife, Joann of Ottawa; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to give special appreciation to Rock Creek of Ottawa, AdventHealth Ottawa, and Dengel & Son Mortuary for the care they have shown towards Betty.
