Barbara Jean Burt was born Feb 10, 1940 in Iosco County, Michigan to Ralph and Vera Burt. Barb’s first job was scooping ice cream at Marion’s Dairy Bar in East Tawas, MI. She earned an Associate’s Degree from Ferris State College. She met Bill Bergman on a blind date, when he was stationed nearby at Wurthsmith Air Force Base. Barb’s parents didn’t want her to date any of the Air Force guys, however they grew to love Bill!
Bill and Barbara married on July 11, 1959, and enjoyed 66 years of life together. They had 3 children within four years: Michael, (Laura); Linda; and Ronald (Sarah). They first lived in Mount Clemens, MI. They moved to San Bernadino, CA, then Navato, CA, followed by Oscoda, MI, Victorville, CA, Apple Valley, CA, Ogden UT, and finally settled on a farm southeast of Paola, KS after Bill retired from the Air Force. They moved to Lee’s Summit, MO in 1987, and lived there until her latest move to Spring Hill Care and Rehab a few months ago.
Barb worked as church secretary at the Paola Methodist Church for several years. She worked as a tax examiner and manager at the IRS after that.
Barb was an avid reader, gardener, and expert seamstress, quilter and crafter. She enjoyed old movies and sitcoms. She volunteered as an Election Official for the Block Community. She helped with many of her children’s endeavors including being a girl scout and cub scout leader. She loved spending time with her husband, children, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren, and was always ready to give others a helping hand. She was a believer in Jesus Christ and was active in several churches through the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Vida Minard. She is survived by her husband Bill, brother Jack Burt, sister-in-law Dorothy Brockus, and all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
