Allan J. Baker Jr.

Allan Baker Jr., born June 26, 1930, passed away on August 29, 2026.

Allan lived a life marked by hard work, service, devotion to family, and a strong independent spirit. He drove a dump truck for Buildex for many years, a career that reflected his steady nature and willingness to put in the effort required to provide and persevere. He also served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. For his military service, he received many distinguished honors, including the Bronze Service Star, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Outside of his work and military service, Allan found enjoyment in collecting old cars and especially loved the Mercury cars he gathered over the years. His biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and loved holding any babies.  He was known for being very independent, a quality he carried throughout his life. That determination was evident in the fact that he continued mowing his own grass until he was 94 years of age.

One of Allan’s proudest accomplishments was the life he built with his wife, Mary. He married Mary Mouton Baker in 1954, and they shared their marriage until her death in 2010. Their years together stand as a lasting part of his life’s story.

Allan is survived by his children: sons Allan Baker, Dennis Baker (Kristi), and Kenny Baker (Nancy); daughters Jacque Baker and Marilyn Gellhaus (Mike); fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and eleven great-great grandchildren. His family will remember him with love and gratitude, and his memory will remain a lasting presence in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Baker; mother, Hattie Baker; wife, Mary Mouton Baker; grandson, Mike Schulz; son-in-law Fred Gellhaus: and sisters, Geraldine Marrone and Ilene Dollar.

Allan Baker Jr. will be remembered for his service to his country, his years of hard work, his love of old cars, and the independent strength that carried him through a long life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held 10am to 11am, Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, located at 235 South Hickory Street, Ottawa, Kansas. Graveside services will follow at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas.
