Greg (Pappy) Wilkes, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18th, 2025, in Rantoul, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 1, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri, and throughout his life, he endeared himself to all who had the fortune of knowing him.
Greg dedicated much of his career to mechanics and fabrication, a field in which he not only honed his skills but also found great joy in. His possible demeanor and infectious sense of humor drew others to him, making him a treasured figure among colleagues, friends, the older crowd and younger generation alike.
A proud father and doting grandfather, Greg cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, finding immense joy and fulfillment in their company and endeavors. He also had a passion for wrestling and enjoyed working out, maintaining an active and mostly outdoor lifestyle that mirrored his spirited and colorful personality. Additionally, he found excitement in classic cars, motor sports and anything involving horsepower, where he could connect with his love, involving anything with an engine and the thrill of competition.
Greg is survived by his devoted mother, Mildred (Ekstam) Wilkes; Sister Lisa (Wilkes) Mosely; sons, Brandon Wilkes (Heather); Michael Clutter (Karrie); and daughter Kristen Sutton (Jacob). Grandchildren include Landon, Laiklyn and Lyncoln Wilkes; Bayley Clutter; Kyle and Taylor Stokes.
He was preceded in death by his father, LB Wilkes, who shaped his early years and instilled in him the values that defined his life. Also, preceded in death by his brothers Terry and Bryan Wilkes.
Pappy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories along with a long list of shenanigans throughout the years. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
