Warren J Medlin age 85, of Wellsville, KS, passed away Friday, August 26, 2011. Warren was born near Springfield, Mo. on, August 28, 1925, the second of thirteen children of Edith and Pierce Medlin. The family moved to Spring Hill when he was four years old. He attended Spring Hill schools. He married Mary P. Christopher at her parent"s home on December 14, 1947. They had three daughters, Kay Bach, Spring Hill, Ks., Susan Kraus of Shell Knob, Mo. and Barbara Kluge of Olathe, Ks. Warren joined the Navy during World War II in Dec. 1943 and honorably discharged Dec. 1953 in Seattle, Washington. Tour of duty included South Pacific area - Philippines, Okinawa, Guam and Japan. Last year of duty was Adak, Alaska where his family joined him. He was on a mine sweeper in 1950 around Japan. He was in the Pacific Ocean when they set off the first atomic bomb. He was 25 miles from the ship and has pictures of each phase of the bomb as it exploded. He worked 25 yrs on construction, belonging to Labors Union 1290 in Kansas City. He was a member of VA in Paola and the American Legion. He was a member of the Edgerton Methodist Church in Edgerton, Ks. He worked 14 yrs on the grounds and as a painter at the Osawatomie State Hospital. He retired in 1988. Warren loved the farm - taking care of the garden and yard work. He raised cattle as long as he was able to take care of them. He enjoyed his family, playing cards and dominos and going to the casino. One of his favorite things to do was to take the golf cart and tour the farm, water tomato plants and watch the birds at the lake. He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Pierce Medlin, brother Manual Medlin and sisters Nadine Feris and Darline Medlin. Warren is survived by his wife Mary of the home, three daughters, Kay Bach, Spring Hill, Ks., Susan Kraus of Shell Knob, Mo; and Barbara Kluge of Olathe, Ks;two granddaughters, Laura Guinn of Alma, Ks and Linda Gutierrez of Olathe; four great grand daughters and a great grandson, brothers,Walt Medlin, Ben Medlin, Bob Medlin, Jerry Medlin and sisters Jane Oliver, Lorene Roth, Blanche Stephens, Mary Burns and Marge Wilse. Memorial Contributions to Olathe Hospice or to United Methodist Church of Edgerton, KS.
