Obituary for Roy Gene Stepaniak

Roy Gene Stepaniak age 81 of Freeman, MO passed away December 2, 2018 at his home.

Roy was born September 24, 1937 in the “Blue Hills” district of North Little Rock, Arkansas to Sylvester & Evie (Turner) Stepaniak. After brief moves to California and Kansas City, KS the family settled in the country near Stilwell, KS where he attended “Buzzard Roost” elementary, followed by Stilwell High School.

While attending high school, Roy was active in Track, Basketball, Baseball and all of the school Plays – Roy was voted Class King 1956. It was there that he met GLynda Cave. Roy love to work and to help others. During summers he worked hard putting up and hauling hay. Hay crew work allowed him free time to work on his car and to date his high school sweetheart Glynda.

Roy married his high school sweetheart Glynda, October 25th, 1958 and they moved to Spring Hill, KS in 1961, where the raised two children and were very active in school & and community activities.

Roy loved hunting, fishing, family camping trips & vacations and football. He was an avid Chiefs fan and enjoyed cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners and Nebraska Cornhuskers for his hunting families. Roy also loved helping others, and he found numerous ways to show that to family and friends.

Roy went to work for Anheuser-Busch in 1958, then in 1960 in-listed with the United States National Guard, returning to Anheiser-Busch where his generosity for co-workers showed as he was voted the Union Steward repeatedly as the voice for all. That Union Steward seat, eventually lead to an offer to become a Business Agent for Teamsters, Local #838 in 1973, which he took and was voted in as Secretary-Treasurer for numerous years. Roy retired from Teamsters in 1989.

Early in 1991, Roy and Glynda retired to the Truman Lake area, near Clinton, MO, where they were coaxed into square dance lessons by friends and shortly thereafter became “Snowbirds” as “Winter Texans” and enjoyed over 25 years of warm winters, friends and fun. One final move brought them to the Freeman area in 2000 to be closer to family & friends and to enjoy more functions with some of the grandchildren. Roy again served his community while living in the Freeman area via appointment to the Board of Directors, PWSD #7, Cass County; where he served from 2004-2018. Several spring, summer and fall trips to Colorado kept them close with their other grandchildren, son & daughter-in-law, where they also enjoyed family trips into the mountains. However annual winter trips to southern Texas continued.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents S.C. & Evie Stepaniak, brothers Harold & Melvin and sister Fay.
