Robert "Bob" Franklin Dunaway, 79, of Paola, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Garden Terrace Nursing Home, Overland Park, Kansas. Bob was born Monday, January 6, 1941, in Paola the son of Wade Franklin and Nellie (Attebery) Dunaway. Bob attended Paola schools graduating with the Class of 1959. Bob was united in marriage to Sue Wilson-Baecker on November 14, 1971 at Paola. They made their home in Paola where they raised their two daughters. Bob and his mother owned and operated Shady Brook, a local restaurant in the Hillsdale community. He also had a Bar and Grill on the Paola Square known as "Bob's Place." He worked as a machinist for 39 years at Taylor Forge in Paola. Bob enjoyed camping, restoring vintage cars, and traveling. He was a member of the Boilermaker's Union, Eagles, American Legion, and VFW. He was preceded in death by his father Wade Franklin Dunaway, mother Nellie Dora Allen, and a brother Larry "Smoothie" Wade Dunaway. Survivors include his wife Sue of the home; two daughters Angela (Glenn) Prothe of Paola and Brandy (Jeff) Hempen of Prairie Village; three grandchildren Andrea, Holly, and Lydia Prothe; and one great granddaughter Ivy Prothe.
