Norma E. Howard, 94, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 18, 2016, at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Mrs. Howard will lie in state from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Norma was born Wednesday, March 8, 1922, in Ottawa, the daughter of Lyman and Phelena (Adams) Fouts. She was a lifelong Ottawa resident. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939. Norma was united in marriage with R. Glen Howard June 22, 1941, in Olathe, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice Maxwell; and four brothers, Edwin, Lynn, Claude and Loren Fouts. Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Howard of Ottawa; two granddaughters, Kristin Berkery of Elk Grove, California, and Rebecca Stern of Austin, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Laurel and William Berkery of Elk Grove, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She worked forty-eight years as a medical assistant for Dr. Louis Speer. Norma was an animal lover. She especially loved her cat Tabby, Arabian horses and Boxer dogs. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067.
